Post-Partum Doula
After the baby is born, you will put your needs aside to tend to your little one. It is easy to forget about your needs. But this is a time requiring intense courage, patience and endurance. In most cultures that honour the feminine, care is given to the woman who has just given birth. To ensure vitality of the infant, vitality of the mother must be nurtured. In our culture of delayed parenting, this is most certainly true. It is easier for a young woman to "bounce back" than for a woman in her third and fourth decade.
I will do house calls while you lie-in with your baby.
For $500
I will arrive on the third day post-partum to provide a herbal steam bath for your womb, to help you release that which you no longer need. This is a treatment that the traditional midwives of Central America perform for their patients. A brief ceremony of spiritual healing will help you let go of fright caused by the mother-infant separation process. Newborn needs for treatment may also be addressed.
During the following 3 weeks, I will come to your house 4 more times to offer you healing treatments. I perform massage for aching shoulders, and Chinese moxa to help "close the door" after giving birth. Assessing the need for supplements, or troubleshooting the early days post-partum are my specialty.
Every time I visit, I will bring you a healing tonic soup, with Chinese herbs taught to me by Dr. Zhou. This amazing soup will help build your energy and connect you to the intense energy of nature.
Enjoy this time with your newborn. It is such a raw and divested time to just be in your body, with your new teacher. ps...doula is the greek word for servant |
