Castor Oil Packs

Castor Oil Packs have been used for generations.

We do not ingest the oil, we apply it to the abdomen/pelvis and add heat. You can apply castor oil to almost any location that is inflamed. For maximum benefit for the immune system, apply the oil to the entire abdomen.

In the past, I would recommend saturating the cloth in castor oil, which is why we call it a “pack”. I found this method unnecessarily cumbersome. The therapy that works is the one you do, and I find applying the oil directly to my skin more efficient and effective.

The purpose is to improve immune system function which is largely housed in the gut. We do know that 5 consecutive days of Castor Oil packs will increase T-cell count to protect the body from infection. This therapy is profound and simple, slow moving and acts like a daily tonic for the GUT, the organ which decides what to absorb and what to eliminate, and is the ultimate barrier between the inside and outside world. Keeping this barrier healthy is important for preventing inflammation.

I recommend doing this therapy 5 consecutive days for at least 20 min. You can also leave it on all night. Take a break on the weekends and repeat another 5 days.

Chronic conditions will require a longer treatment season.

For example, people with severe endometriosis may need to use this for 2 weeks before to their menstrual flow for years. Consult with your functional medicine doctor to get a customized recommendation for frequency and duration.
